Project 8 Pre-Work
Commercial Magazine Portraits
I like this magazine portrait of Adele because of how different it is from many other magazine portraits. We see another side of Adele with this portrait with the mood being used, almost a worn out tired side, that intrigues me and makes us want to read the article on her in the magazine.
I liked this magazine cover because a theme is created with the unity of colors and simplicity of the background. The unity and simplicity gets across the point that this cover is advertising chanel, and creates an aesthetically pleasing picture to look at. I also like how the women has a slightly alienish look to herself, making me want to look at this magazine cover longer than I would a different magazine because its intriguing.
Fine Art Portraits
Steve Mcurry
I liked this fine art portrait mostly because of the way color was used. All colors beside the blue cloth and her blue eyes are subtle, and it creates a high contrast picture that is beautiful. This color brings attention to the girls face, and through her facial expression I get a mood of sadness.
Michelle Dupont
I liked this fine art portrait because of the way the photographer used a prop to create a different looking intriguing photo. The hole in the center of the leaf really makes the focus on the eyes, and the eyes are the best way to get across a mood. The mood I get from this picture is one of innocence and youth.

Project 7: Surrealism and Photo Montage
"Pecking Order"
In this piece I used multiple layers including a sunset sky that depicted pink clouds, a city skyline, a pigeon, a tower, and building from Venice. I scaled them differently to create the appearance that a giant pigeon was standing on old Venetian houses, pecking a tower, with a contrastingly modern city landscape in the background.
"Mystery of Sunrise"
In this piece I took a landscape I had of a surfer walking into the water and transformed it. I added a picture of Luke in front of a circular sculpture at the art museum and added a yellow tint. I then scaled it down and made it appear so as if it was coming up from behind the horizon, like the sun does while rising. Then to create an even more surrealistic feeling I added saturated leaves that reminded me of the jungle, which added to the tropical feeling of the picture. Finally I added a lense flare to create a picture as if the sun was rising.
"Melting Away"
In this photo I just wanted to experiment with the liquify tool. So I took a picture of AnneMarie in a bathtub and when he body was in contact with the water I liquified it to give it the appearance that she was melting.
"Static"
Like the one above, in this photo of AnneMarie in a bathtub I experimented with the liquify tool.

Project 6: Alternative Process Through Digital Means
Cyanotypes
I made these cyanotypes on photoshop by using different brushes to get the texture around the outside and then I changed the pictures themselves to have a bluish tint, creating a basic cyanotype.
Van Dyke
I researched how to make a Van Dyke and learned that I could use the same process I used with a cyanotype and then change the tint to a brownish tint instead of blue.
Bromoil Print
I looked up pictures of Bromoil Paints and noticed some characteristics. I noticed that they were grainy, that they were black and white, that they had high contrasts, and that they had a slight inverse vignette. I applied all of those characteristics to my picture of Venice to get a bromoil print.
Gum Bichromate
To get a gum bichromate I did what I did to get a cyanotype but then layered light colors over the picture, in the picture below I used a light yellow, pink, and blue. I then used different blending effects until I got the photo I wanted.
Daguerrotype
To get the daguerrotype below I first downloaded a few textures and a picture that had a frame I thought would go well with my landscape photo. I then changed the tint of my photo, added the textures and blended them together to my liking, and then added the frame by erasing the picture inside it, leaving just my picture.
Experimentation
I wanted to experiment a little with textures and colors so I took a landscape, added a few textures to it, and then played around with the colors and the brightness/contrast. I ended up with the picture below which fits with my aesthetics.
